For those who are not familiar with the varieties of birds that exist, anything that is huge is considered an eagle.

There are a lot of varieties of the birds coming from the aves class. In fact, there are kinds of eagles found all over the world having different sizes and characteristics. Unfortunately, most of these species are scarce and only a few are living freely because of the poachers and hunters who constantly harm them. Among the most sought after specie is the Philippine Eagle which is also known as the Monkey Eating Eagle.

Known to be the biggest eagle all over the world, this amazing bird can be found in the forest of the Philippine Islands. It measures from 86 cm up to 102 cm as it matures and weighs as much as 8 kilograms. They are known to be a close relative of the Harpy eagle based on the early studies done in 1919 using the skeleton of the Philippine Eagle or the Pithecophaga jefferyi.  Sadly, this breed is critically endangered although the local government of the Philippines is doing its best to multiply their number. Anyone caught hunting or harming these birds will be facing criminal charges which are punishable up to 12 years in prison aside from fines which are also high.

The Beauty of the Philippine Eagle

Normally, the Philippine Eagle has brown feathers which are long and it forms a bushy crest along its nape. One can say that it is not far from that of a lion’s mane if you thoroughly look at its details. If you look at its dark face, you can very well see the fearlessness in their blue-gray eyes. Its back has dark brown fluffs while their legs are colored yellow that has very powerful claws which are also dark. Their under wings are white and mature and young ones look almost the same if not for their pale fringes which are found on the juveniles.

These are indeed very strong birds since they can scoop their preys with their strong claws. They prey on smaller animals and also monkeys where they got their name Monkey-eating eagles. Some of these birds grow as huge as vultures and they have similar characteristics too but the Philippine Eagle does not eat dead meat like all other kinds of eagles. They are absolutely fitted to be called the king of the sky.
