Biggest House in the World
Every person is entitled to have a house on its own, or at least a place to stay. In fact, having shelter is one of the basic rights that should be afforded to every human being. For many, having its own house is a dream come true. It doesn’t matter whether the house has 3 floors with 10 bedrooms or a one-storey house with 2 bedrooms. What’s more important is the roof above your head with all the basic amenities in it.
Apparently, that is not the case for Mukesh Ambani, owner of Antilia, the biggest house in the world.
Quick Facts about Mukesh Ambani
An Indian business magnate born in 1957, Mukesh Ambani is chairman and CEO of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), a group of companies that is involved in exploration and production, refining and marketing, petrochemicals, retail and telecommunications. He is also India’s richest and one of the world’s richest men with an estimated net worth of US $22.3 billion. His company, RIL, is also one of the Fortune 500 companies and the most valuable company by market value in India.
Antilia, the Biggest house in the World
Located in Altamount Road, South Mumbai in India, one of the most expensive streets in the world, Antilia is a 400,000 sq ft, 27-storey residential skyscraper that houses Mukesh Ambani and family. Named after a mythical island in the Atlantic Ocean, Nita Ambani, wife of Mukesh Ambani, told Vanity Fair reporter James Reginato that their residence is actually a 40-storey building because some ceilings are in double height.
Aside from the underground parking space for 168 cars with 3 helipads, it also has a spa, a terraced garden and a temple for prayer. It also contains a ballroom, numerous guest suites and has its own theater which can accommodate up to 50 people. Antilia also has a health club, gym, dance studio and even contains an elevated garden with ceiling space in order to accommodate small trees.
The home also employs 600 staff for maintenance while the lobby alone has a total of nine elevators. The family also stays in the top floors of the building because of the sunlight and at the same time, provides them with a spectacular view of Mumbai and the Arabian Sea.
The residence was patterned after the Asian style décor in Mandarin Oriental Hotel in New York City where Nita Ambani once stayed. Hence, the house’s motifs are sun and lotus that are made out of crystal, marble and mother of pearl. The residential house was designed by Perkins & Will, Chicago-based architects, and constructed by Leighton Holdings, an Australian-based construction company.
Apart from being the biggest house in the world, Antilia is also the world’s most expensive house which costs US$1 billion. Antilia is also considered as a ‘billion dollar home.”
Grand is an understatement when describing the biggest house in world. Who wouldn’t want to live and go home in such a magnificent and extraordinary place like Antilia? But for most people, having a big house is not important. What matters most is that they have a place to go home to, no matter how small, big, cheap or expensive it may be.
