Coldest Planet in Solar System
Pluto used to be the one in the number one post of the coldest planet in the universe. Since it is no longer considered as a planet, Uranus has replaced it. This is the seventh planet in the solar system. It has the same composition with Neptune and it has a planetary radius that is third largest in the solar system.
Astronomers call Uranus an ice giant because of its atmosphere that is composed of more ice. It also has water, ammonia, hydrogen, helium, methane and some hydrocarbons. This is the planet that is made up of complex and layered cloud structure and is considered to have the coldest atmosphere in the whole solar system. The lowest temperature is -224 degrees Celsius. The inside part of this planet is composed of ice and rocks.
Sir William Herschel discovered and considered Uranus as a planet in March 13, 1781. The discovery is one of the most special because the planet is discovered with the use of a telescope. According to the experts, Uranus was not considered by the ancient people to be a planet because it is dark and its orbit is very slow. There are different instances when observers noticed it but it was not considered a planet until before Hershel saw it from the garden of his house in England.
When Herschel was asked to name it, he named it Georgium Sidus or George’s Start in honor to King George III. Another astronomer named Eric Prosperin proposed to name the planet Neptune and other astronomers want to name it Neptune George III or Neptune Great Britain but they opted to choose the name Uranus. It is derived from the Latin name for the Greek God of Sky named Ouranos. When it comes to the revolution, Uranus is not the same with earth. It revolves around the sun once in 84 earth years. But as time passes by, there are different studies that are showing that the recorded thing about the revolution is not really exact.
This planet is just getting 1/400 sunlight from the sun compared to earth. This is one thing that can make you realize that this is indeed one cold planet. The amount of sunlight that it gets from the sun explains the ice composition that it has. When it comes to the heat flux of Uranus, it is lower than that of the earth. It has a very low internal heat. This is lower compared to other large planets.
Uranus is one of the planets with rings that are made up of dark particles. This planet has 13 rings and when Herschel claimed that there were rings around it, the observers did not believe it yet until it is finally confirmed with few more studies. Aside from the ring around it, there is something that is different about it is the number of moons or natural satellites that it has. Uranus has 27 moons. Five of these satellites include Miranda, Ariel, Umbriel, Titania and Oberon.
