Oldest Galaxy Discovered
The formation of a galaxy is brought about by various theories. The most popular theory is the Big Bang theory. The other theories would include the Cosmic Dust theory and some supernatural or religious beliefs. Then again the overall structure of a galaxy is that it is made up of hundreds to thousands of stars along with several planets. The galaxy then makes up the universe which is believed to have an infinite amount of galaxies and celestial bodies. The galaxy where we belonged to is called the Milky Way galaxy is the only one proven to have life. It is still unclear as to how old some of these galaxies are and the distance that each galaxy is separated apart. The oldest recorded galaxy so far is called BX422.
The galaxy BX422 is recorded to be as old as 13.7 billion years old. It is believed that it was one of the earliest galaxies born after the Big Bang. BX422 is said to have been formed 3 billion years after the explosion of the Big Bang. The BX422 is approximately 10.7 billion light years distant from our very own Milky Way. It’s not clear whether there is life or any inhabited planets but we don’t have the technology to explore that distance at the moment.
The galaxy BX422 was discovered by lead scientist David R. Law. Dr. Law was assisted by his group of astronomers as they made the discovery back in 2010. The team was stationed in the University of Toronto through the use of a high powered Hubble Space Telescope. The initial images they got showed various star formations before going to the conclusion that it was definitely a galaxy. BX422 was one of the few spiral type galaxies that date back to be as old as possible.
Variations of Galaxies
The BX422 was considered to be a spiral galaxy much similar to our own Milky Way. The formation is that of a spiral starting at the central point then revolving to the outer layer. It is believed that these spiral galaxies tend to be more dense and collective. There are only a few spiral galaxies around as most other galaxies are simply clusters of stars and space rocks. The discovery of the BX422 was a sign that there are more spiral type galaxies out there.
Galactic Formation Theories
The Big Bang theory states that the universe and its infinite galaxies were formed through an explosion in space. Due to the buildup of heat in space, the condensation turned into a massive explosion. The particles scattered in the universe and formed the planets and stars after millions and billions of years of cooling. The other theory is the Cosmic Dust theory as space is also filled up with particles that are similar to dust. The dust compiled up and formed the galaxies as the years went by. The Big Bang theory still remains the most popular choice and is accepted by in the science world.
Discovering these galaxies give us a glimmer of interest as to see if there is life in these areas. Discovering life is one thing but what if they could be inhabited by us or the future generation.
